From the President
Well
folks my quest to be the Club Champ was squashed at Marshall
Canyon. Mr. Mixon played steady golf and won our match 1 up at
number 18. It was a good match and I congratulate and wish him
luck on his quest for club champion against Mr. London (B Flight
Champ). I’m back to trying to figure
out what’s going on with my swing so I can be ready for
next year. Yes, you’re right, I don’t give up. I
just delayed it another year.
The play at Dos Lagos was really good. I shot my best round
in several attempts. I guess I just like new courses. Too bad
I couldn’t pull it together last month. I hope those of
you who played, in this last tournament, were pleased with the
course and I hope we can book it again next year. Please give
your Tournament Chair a round of applause for finding this gem.
Those of you who have paid for your shirts
but have yet to receive them can see me at any tournament and
I’ll have
them, or contact me by phone and I’ll get them to you.
For those of you who have not purchased a shirt yet, I will accommodate
you, as well. We only have the blue version of the shirt at
present. The sooner we sell the current batch, the sooner we
can order the next batch. The Club cannot afford to front the
second batch.
In our latest board meeting we had some interesting discussions.
One of them is the upcoming election. As you may or may not know,
our board terms are two years and we’re coming to the end
of this cycle. All offices are up for grabs and I’m hoping
that some of you will step to the plate and be counted. Now is
the time for all good Pack Members to come to the aid of their
club. Consider this article a call to arms. The Club needs new
ideas in the leadership positions. Many of our current board
members have been in office for some time. They are burned out
and need a break. So drop me a line or give me a call and tell
me which office you’d be interested in. If you’re
not sure what the offices are, I can get you that INFO as well.
I hope to have a nominating committee together shortly (I need
volunteers for this as well).
We also discussed the GHIN Handicapping System. We recommend
that you post all scores on-line (except tournament scores).
This is because posting at the course you played is not reliable.
We’re totally dependent upon the SCGA or PLGA handicap
person to upload GHIN postings and that’s not their primary
concern. If they forget, then your scores are not forwarded to
GHIN. Any questions on this subject can be forwarded to your
handicap chair, or to me, and we’ll get you an answer.
WSGA and Southern Area support was another subject. I played
in the CTV Scholarship Fund Raising Tournament on Sept. 28 th.
To my disappointment there were fewer than 5 of us Pack members
participating. Overall they only had about 80 players in a field
that should have been 144. Please make every attempt to participate
in these events. They are very important to the success of Scholarship
Program as well as other programs such as The Junior Golf Program
and Women in Golf Program.
I have flyers for the Tri-Club Classic being held in Palm Springs
on December 8 th and 9 th. You’d better get it in because
spots are going fast and Hotel reservations are waning as well.
We’re still in negotiations for our annual party celebration.
The date is January 11, 2008; more details will follow.
WSGA Southern
Area:
There is an apparent conflict of interest with respect to the
Board of Directors of our chapter of The First Tee of South Los
Angeles (Southern Area Youth Programs Inc). In an attempt to
correct the conflict, a motion was made to vacate the seat currently
held by Gus Robinson. The motion failed and a resolution was
continued to the next meeting. The Treasurer reported a balance
of $472.65 in the Southern Area Operating Fund with $450 yet
to collect from the Southern Area Shootout.
The Southern Area ladies won the WIG North/South Shootout.
There is a Unity Day Tournament scheduled at Maggie Hathaway
Golf Course on November 24 th at 11:00 AM. Please try to participate
and support this event.
WSGA:
Elections are scheduled for June 2008. If anyone is interested
is seeking a position within WSGA you must submit your intentions,
along with a brief resume of yourself and the things you would
like others to know in order to vote for you, not later than
the February meeting. The following are the positions that will
be voted on by each club: President, Secretary, Asst. Secretary,
Treasurer, Financial Secretary, Tournament Chairman, Handicap
Chairman and Parliamentarian. Any member who is financial as
of April 30, 2008 will be eligible to vote. The official ballot
will be sent out to each club president prior to April 1, 2008.
If you do not get on the ballot you will be able to come from
the floor. The number of votes each club has will be based on
the number of members they have as of April 30, 2008. Clubs will
select the area Vice President for their area. If you have any
questions regarding elections, feel free to contact James Redwine,
members of the committee – Len Snedden, Les Williams or
Donald Gridiron Jr, or the Area VP, Art Dansby.
Until next month…. Your President,
Jim Gaines
