The Long Beach Pack Golf Club was established in 1994. Several golfers in the area got together on a regular basis just to hang out and play golf for skins, bragging rights, etc. One day as the group was heading down the fairway at Skylinks Golf Course, Eddie Giles was overhearing conversations. Everyone seemed to have a nickname for some animal (Bird, Bear, Philly Dog, Duck) and Eddie said " we're walking through here like a 'Pack' of animals. Thus the name The Pack stuck.
The Long Beach Pack Golf Club
Our founders played the Long Beach courses regularly and decided to create a club. Some of the original members were, Walt Clements, Eddie Giles, Charlie Seymore, Phil Valasques, Harmon Vaughn, Michael Harvath, Eddie Scott, Bruce Roberts, Ed Prendergast and Charlie Mattis to name a few. In 1995 The Pack was introduced to the WSGA by Jim Saunders. Jim was a member of another WSGA club (Arroyo) out of Altadena. He invited the then Southern Area Vice President, Joe Boyd to a club meeting to explain the benefits of joining WSGA. We were accepted into the organization at the February 1995 semi-annual meeting. The rest, as they say, is history. Our first President, Charlie Seymore, first Secretary, Bruce Roberts and first Handicap Chairman, Charlie Mattis are still active members.
The Pack has a scheduled tournament each month, providing opportunities for members to play a veriety of courses throughout the area. A percentage of the proceeds from every tournament is set asside for Junior Golf. We distribute the funds throught the year to WSGA sponsored events as well as cover costs of Juniors that play in our monthly events.
Thanks to our founders our members continue to enjoy venturing out to different courses and looking for a good game.
